ACT & SAT PREP COURSE INFORMATION

Nursing graduates study and review for state board exams known as the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). Passing this test qualifies the nurse to practice professionally.  Taking an NCLEX preparation
course and review helps the nursing student pass the exam. Simply attending nursing school for 3-4 years does not guarantee passing the NCLEX.

Similar to nursing students, law students must pass the Bar Exam to practice law within a particular state/jurisdiction. It is quite common for law students to take a review course to increase the chances of passing the exam. The need to review course material before taking a standardized test is important!

SVA is committed to providing the highest quality of education for your child.  Our teachers master their
course content and are highly trained in teaching strategies.  As a result, students learn course material
effectively in class.  However, students may forget what they learned before taking the ACT/SAT.

To help boost your child’s ACT/SAT scores, please consider signing him/her up with an ACT/SAT prep course. In these courses, your child will engage in an extensive review of material learned in high school.  Reviews help remind students of what they had learned.

In the near future, SVA will be offering these prep courses on campus. As for now, we direct your attention to the following links by UNM:

COMPLETE COLLEGE CHECK LIST: SENIOR YEAR

If your student is entering their senior year, it is a very exciting time, but also very busy as they prepare for college. They need to be able to manage high school classes, sports and misc. activities, but they need to focus on college admissions, ACT/SAT testing, college applications/resumes, applying for scholarships, etc….

It is key that you are prepared and don’t miss out on deadlines. We have created a college prep checklist to help you and your student prepare for this busy time.

  1. Register for ACT/SAT testing in  early fall. Colleges start requesting scores in the fall for scholarships.
  2. Research which colleges you would like to attend and document application deadlines.
  3. Apply for scholarships and FASA https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa as early as October.
  4. Start working on your college applications and letters of recommendation. Ask a teacher to review your letters for guidance.
  5. Keep working hard on maintaining your grades, because colleges still look what you do your senior year.
  6. Follow up with the colleges to ensure they received your applications.
  7. Meet with a financial advisor to see how you can help save for college.
  8. Review your college acceptance letters and compare financial aid offers.
  9. When you decide which school you will attend, notify the school of your commitment and submit any required financial deposit.
